Frequently asked questions
If you are considering coming on a 1-2-1 workshop and have a question or two about how things work, please take a look through these questions to see if they might help you.
Q 1. What level of photographer do I need to be to come on a workshop?
Ans. All abilities and levels are welcome, whether a complete beginner or an experienced photographer.
Q 2. What camera do I need to have?
Ans. Digital SLRs, Medium Format, Micro four thirds and CSC cameras are all good. If you have a compact camera and would like 1-2-1 tuition please contact me.
Q 3. Will I need a tripod?
Ans. Yes ... a tripod would be very useful, especially on a landscape photography workshop. If you don't have one I do keep a spare that you can borrow. Please mention this on the workshop booking form at the time of booking.
Q 4. Will I need to buy any filters?
Ans. No ... it is probably better not to buy anything until you have completed the workshop and can make a more considered purchase. I do have a number of filter holders and filters to lend out.
Q 5. Is transport provided?
Ans. Once we have met, transport to and between locations is included.(where a workshop is based at one location we may meet at that location)
Q 6. What happens after I have paid my deposit/payment for the workshop?
Ans. You will receive an email to confirm your booking. You will also receive an online link to complete a booking form. Once completed I will send an outlined itinerary of the workshop together with a list of suggested items to bring along.
Q 7. Why do I need to fill in the booking form?
Ans. The booking form information is mainly for my administration purposes. I have to have an emergency contact number and address. The form also helps me to plan the workshop with questions about the participants photographic experience and also a few health related questions.
Q 8. What do we do for food during the workshop?
Ans. Generally we bring along our own packed lunches and drinks.
Q 9. What happens if it is raining?
Ans. On 1-2-1 days I keep an eye on the weather in advance of the date and if the weather looks to be bad we can try and rearrange the day.
Q 10. When does the workshop finish?
Ans. On most workshops we aim to finish after the evening sunset shoot. If we are lucky enough to get an afterglow at sunset we may shoot beyond the sun setting - this may mean a slightly longer workshop. One day workshops are 8.5hrs in duration. A half day workshop is 4.5 hours in duration.
Q 11. Why do you need to know about my photographic experience and camera equipment?
Ans. It is useful to know in advance your previous experience so that I can tailor the day to you. Knowing what camera and equipment you use means I can plan your day making sure I bring along items that might complement your gear, i.e. the correct size filter holders or filters.
Q 12. Do you share any of my details with anyone else?
Ans. No...the information you supply is strictly confidential and only for my information. It is held on file until after the workshop. Credit/debit card information is only held by secure merchant services like Paypal and not by me.
Q 13. Can I book on a series or a course of workshops?
Ans. Yes...please contact me to work out the details.
Q 14. Can I buy a gift voucher or certificate for a relative or a friend?
Ans. Yes you can buy a gift voucher which is supplied within a blank greetings card for you to present to your relative, friend or colleague. The voucher can be for any amount (starting at £50) and can be used against any 1-2-1 tuition or Experience Day. Please contact me to work out the details.
