Iconic Gardens
There can be fewer places as iconic and as beautiful in England as the gardens and grounds of Stourhead in the autumn season. I know I often quote my love for certain workshops as being the most enjoyable to host but this annual foray into Wiltshire to the beautiful National Trust grounds at Stourhead has become quite a pilgrimage over the last 12 years or so. This will though be my last group workshop at Stourhead as I am planning to hang up my boots hosting group workshops generally at the end of 2022.
Optimum Time
This workshop is planned for the most optimum time to enjoy the bronzes and colourful hues of autumn. If you have never been before you will probably have not experienced a place like it. There are lots of photographic opportunities including the expansive and picturesque lake, the spectacular architecture of the Pantheon, the Temple of Apollo, the world famous Palladaian Bridge and many other structures that cry out to be photographed. If nature is more to your liking then the flora within the famous gardens is second to none, not to mention the spectacular trees, some over 200 year old. The lake is the perfect centre piece for many so we attempt to circumnavigate it whilst stopping to get our photographs along the way. In all honesty I have always failed to get a group of photographers all the way around the lake in one day, the photography always taking precedence - there's a challenge!
The Itinerary
We begin the day by meeting up in the top car park at Stourhead which is free to National Trust members, pay and display otherwise. After our initial greetings and entering the grounds we start shooting straight away to maximise our photo opportunities before the grounds get too many visitors. After the first shoot we will most likely grab a coffee and use the local facilities before spending the rest of the day circling the lake with our tripods and cameras. All levels are welcome.
Please note entry to the grounds is not included in the workshop so don't forget your membership card if you are a member. Current entry costs to grounds for non members can be found on the National Trust website.
Additional Information
- I do recommended that you bring a packed lunch and enough hot/cold drinks to last you for the day.
- All levels are welcome, whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer.
